New Balance 168th Street Armory 1/25/2014
The 2014 New Balance Games, track meet at the 168th Street Armory in New York City was a fantastic meet. The athletes were magnificent as they displayed their speed and strength in the many disciplines. From the long jump to the 55 meter dash, from the 300 to the high jump, competition was everywhere. New Balance and the Armory sure know how to put on a meet! I was very impressed with the Elite Pro competitions among both men and women. Dorr, Miller and Baird were among the women competing in the 300 Meter dash Elite Pro field. The men were SMOKIN' led by Mitchell, Lawrence, Mitchell and Mance. My daughter Allura Leggard, had two PB's in the 55 and 300 and this was her first time competing at this venue. She got a chance to see who her competiton is and it was a little humbling but watch out New York, she is only a Freshman! These young people were fast. Everyone was in great shape and psyched! I had a bit of nostalgia as I remembered when I competed here in ancient times, back in 1971 and '72. All I recollect was going home and walking through the train to show off my gold! The speed that was on display was awesome and if anyone is looking for a great time and watching track and field performed at a high level, I recommend coming to the 168th Street Armory and watching the speed demons blaze around the track!
