The Village Of Sag Harbor once again came together to pay homage to one of our fallen heroes. The dedication of the Lance Cpl. Jordan Haerter Veteran's Memorial Bridge was a poignant ceremony that reminded Sag Harbor of the sacrifices of our military. The ceremony was bittersweet for Jordan Haerter's parents, JoAnn Lyles and Christian Haerter and family but the residents of Sag Harbor came together to support them with love and village pride. As the clouds turned gray and the rains came, it seemed as if heaven itself cried for the loss of this brave Marine. The ceremony was attended by Congressman Tim Bishop, Assemblyman Fred Thiele, Steve Levy, Suffolk County Executive, Sag Harbor Mayor, Greg Ferraris, North Haven Mayor, Laura Nolan as well as representatives of Governor Patterson's office. But this was not a political opportunity as members of all political affiliations joined together as friends and neighbors of this grieving family. There were veterans and enlisted men and women of every armed service but none was as represented as the family of Marines. The village stood in awe as the unit that Lance Cpl. Jordan Haerter served, the 1st Battalion 9th Marine Regiment; was repesented in their dress uniforms with all its splendor and strength. Once again this reminded us of why we are proud to be Americans.
